We had similar problems with JVM running Jboss 3.2.5 when performance of the hardware cooling system was poor. Jboss uses lots of memory. If hardware gets too hot, it is high probable that misfunctioning memory causes JVM to crash.Some additional fans and better air conditioning have helped.
If it is not it, try using another JVM implementation - for example JRockit instead of Sun's JVM. By the way JRockit fixes some OutOfMemoryError related problems.
