JBoss 5.0.0 alpha is actually the repository head. I doubt there is a standalone JBoss 5.0.0 alpha release. In order to try it with the head, you will have to check it out from CVS and build it. However, it should work in JBoss 4.0.x. I will take a look to see why it doesn't and get back to you.
