Hi, I did not mean go though the source code...just the unit test code (in http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/jakarta/jcs/trunk/src/test/org/apache/jcs/).
There are test cases, and sample configurations for most situations. I do agree, and beginners guide would be nice.
