thanks for the quick reply. The solution you proposed did not work in my
case since the data from the <input> tag did not become part of the insert
statement generated by the <db:insertButton> tag.

However, by your example I knew how to reference rows of tables within a
dbform. The following tag worked:

<db:textField
  hidden=true
  fieldName=""
  overrideValue="<%= currentRow_SUPER_TABLE.get("SUPER_ID") %>" \>
