I can't get jimi to work either. I've been using JAI.
I put an the windows installer version at http://jdbforms.sourceforge.net/non-cvs/docs/usersguide/pdf/jai/jai-1_1_2-rc -lib-windows-i586-jre.exe or You can get it directly from (but you need to register) http://developer.java.sun.com/servlet/SessionServlet?url=/developer/earlyAcc ess/jai/index.html Basically, you need a few jai jars in your jre/lib/ext dir, so after running the installer, they should be there. I build the pdf under windows using JAI so know it works.
