Hi,
one more thing to note - at least from my experience, Tomcat 5.0.x _requires_ commons-logging and log4j packages to be put into common/lib directory. Otherwise not only webapp fails to deploy, but it somehow damages Tomcat's internal functionality. Logs often show something like that:
----- Root Cause ----- java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/log4j/BasicConfigurator

Getting this error when shutting down Tomcat after installing the examples:
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.apache.commons.digester.Digester.sax).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
Any hints?
Thanks, Bill
