I also tested Echo with no problems on NT/SVP4, JDE 2.1.6beta1,
and JDK 1.2.1.
Considering that you are able to get it to work with the Unix version
of Emacs, it's possible that this may have something to do with
eol conversion on NT. It might help to see your .emacs file to see
what comint settings you have.
