If you're working on a completely new version, I would suggest you look at
the Emacs interface to Sun Workshop C++.  Instead of just putting a text
"==>" string in the buffer, they use a scheme of setting the BACKGROUND
color of the current line.  They also use different colors for different
things.  For instance:

        current line: green
        current line, but up stack: pink
        line with breakpoint: orange

I believe there are others.  I find this interface very nice.
