hi there,

with Paul Kinnucan, we are setting up a CVS repository for JDE, so that
all of you can get the latest version of it, and developers can help
with JDE without taking too much time on Paul.

we plan to have mailing lists set up to be even more efficient, a bit
like XEmacs does, having a list for patches and a list for CVS
notifications.

while everyone will have access to the repository for downloading files,
we will restrict modify access to serious programers who are willing to
volunteer their time to make a better JDE.

if you are interrested in helping build JDE, please send me a preferred
username and password. those are not guaranteed to be the same as the
ones you will get, but they should look a lot like it (or not).
you can send your password in ASCII or already encrypted, but please
specify which way you sent it . those who which to send it using PGP,
please contact me, i will set up something.
if you just which to access files over CVS, you dont't need to send any
of the above information to me: it will be anonymous and public.

people volunteer to be cvs modifiers have to understand that they might
have to go through the 'patches' mailinglist and test/accept/reject
patches, and that some users might expect feedback from them.
if you wish just to make occasional changes, then you are probably more
interrested in sending patches to the 'patches' mailinglist.

of course, a developer may resign at any time and new ones can join the
train later.

for those of you who are still reading this mail, here is some place
where you can get GNU CVS:
ftp://sunsite.auc.dk/pub/gnu

and here are pointers to the CVS homepage where you can find clients and
servers for all machines:
http://www.cyclic.com
http://www.loria.fr/~molli/cvs-index.html

instructions as to how to use CVS to get the latest source of JDE will
be posted on the JDE homepage as soon as we set everything up, and test
the system. at the same time should appear those mailinglists i've told
you about, and information on how to subscribe/unsubscribe.

of course the current mailinglist will remain, and will be the most used
probably.

instructions will also be posted (or sent personnaly?) for the
developers that will use CVS to modify files.

we are still working on the details, and we'll let you know as soon as
we've any updates. i am convinced that it will improve the quality of
JDE to _even_ better.
