can't compile with JDE

Hello.

I just installed JDE with emacs20.5.1 for Windows 95.  When I try to
compile I get the following output...

in compilation buffer
    cd c:/Spring00/java/
    javac  Palindrome.java

in minibuffer
    Wrong type argument: stringp, nil

on mode line
    (Compilation:no process)

I can run applications with JDE just fine.
All help is appreciated.  Thanks.
