Hi folks,
I remember someone mentioning on the list awhile ago that they had set
up Emacs/JDE to be shared between both NT and 98. I am in process of
rebuilding my OSes(Windows NT,Windows 98,Debian GNU/linux,Debian
GNU/HURD). I use the GNU GRUB bootloader. I have yet to find a
commercial bootloader that can compare to it. Grub is simple and
straightforward.
The partitioning on the machine is as follows:

hda1 100M FAT16 boot partition for win 98 main
hda2 100M FAT16 boot partition for win 98 experimental
hda3 100M NTFS boot partition for win NT
hda4< DOS extended
hda5 --> hda10>   ext2fs partitions for Debian GNU/linux and GNU/HURD
OSes

hdb1 2.5G NTFS partition for win NT
hdb2 100M FAT16 partition for transfer of data, mounted by all
OSes
hdb3< DOS extended
hdb4 2.5G FAT16 partition for win 98 main
hdb5> 1.5G FAT16 partition for win 98 experimental

I was thinking of using hdb2 for lisp files since it is mounted by all
OSes and Emacs is my editor of choice. For the Debian OSes what I will
do is mount hdb2 as the emacs lisp directory. I believe I should be
able to hook NT and 98 into hdb2 as its lisp directory as well.
The hdb5 looks like the best place to install the cygwin shell,
NTemacs and JDE for the NT and 98 OSes.
What I am shooting for is an interactive development machine. Every
job has it's correct tool. JDE and emacs are a couple of those really
wonderful kind of cross platform tools(I wish JDE was ported to the
Hurd).
I am not experienced with emacs/jde in the NT and 98
environment(yet). Initially it looks as if I should do the install from
NT( I believe from NT I can create directories that have a / as in
UNIX). Any and all hints and suggestions are welcome. All creative
ideas are welcome. I look forward to the correspondence.

Jim
