Another way is to set the variable jde-run-classic-mode-vm. Here's the doc for
this variable:

jde-run-classic-mode-vm's value is 
nil

Documentation:
Runs applications in the classic (i.e., not HotSpot) mode.

You can customize this variable.

Defined in `jde-run'.
