sorry if repeated (1st time not on Maillist )
Im using;

redhat linux 2.2.16-3 on i686
xemacs-21.1.12, built from tar-files, default configure, make install,
jde-2.2.2
.emacs file - copied from http://sunsite.auc.dk/jde/_emacs_jde

xemacs -debug-init &

Backtrace gets -

Signaling: (file-error "Cannot open load file" "cc-mode")
  load-internal("cc-mode" nil t nil nil nil)
  load("cc-mode" nil t nil)
  require(cc-mode)
  load-internal("jde" nil t nil nil nil)
  load("jde" nil t nil)
  require(jde)
  load-internal("~/.emacs" t t t nil nil)
  load("~/.emacs" t t t)
  load-user-init-file("")
  load-init-file()
  command-line()
  normal-top-level()

It looks like Im not getting stuff from default installation.

I double checked, - I am indeed using    (add-to-list 'load-path,

which shouldnt forget existing load paths.

So, when I ^x^f a java file, it gives following message:

File mode specification error: (error "java-mode")
and major-mode is Fundamental

Any advice ?

tia, jimc

Also - not central to JDE, but ...

 tried Options->Manage Packages to install JDE

-> List & Install shows only efs, xemacs-base,
this agrees with contents of /usr/local/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages

Oddly, when I do  Options->Manage Packages-> List & Install,
xemacs fails to efs/ftp get the package-index.LATEST.pgp
I can manually FTP the file though.
