jde and cvs

There's a feature in xemacs that it will check version numbers of files
and stick it on the modeline if you're using rcs, sccs or cvs for
version control. I verified that it works on my machine recently by
forcing it into java mode, rather than jde mode, and xemacs displayed
version information. Is there any way to get this to work in jde?
