How did you set this variable?

Please file a bug report so I can see what that actual state of the JDE
variables.

Highlighting works fine for me with JDE 2.2.6 on Emacs 20.7.1 on Solaris
and Windows and on XEmacs 20.1 on Solaris and Windows.

A bug report would help me determine whether some setup error is occuring
when you load a Java source file that might interrupt fontification.
