You can go from XML to PDF, using Apache's Formatted Output Processor (FOP)
and the XSL-FO stylesheet that comes with the Docbook DTD. (The JDE user's
guide is an instance of a Docbook.) It is my intention to use FOP to
generate PDF versions of all the JDE documention for every release. It will
simply be part of the build process for creating the JDE distribution. I
will be using the Saxon processor and the Docbook info stylesheet to
generate info files from the XML. All of these tools, except FOP, are
included in the XML Authoring Environment for Emacs
(http://xae.sunsite.dk). I intend to include FOP in an upcoming release of
the XAE.
