JDE Version 2.2.7beta11 Emacs GNU Emacs 20.7.1 (i386-*-nt4.0.1381) on NT 4.0 I am not sure if this jde problem or emacs problem. Load a read only Java file. While file is loading i.e. progress report for fontification and such other tasks that are performed while loading a java file, hit jde-compile (C-c C-v C-c) to compile the file. After file is compiled, the read-only status of the file as far as emacs is concerned (%% mark in the mode line) is lost. Actual attributes of the file on the disk are left unchanged. If you reload the file, original attribute are restored again. - Niranjan
