Jeez, this comes up about once a week.  Does anyone ever read installation
guides any more?

On the JDE page (http://jde.sunsite.dk/), under "JDE Requirements", one of the
listed packages is:

> * The Emacs Lisp library (elib) package. You can download the package in
>     compressed tar or zip format from the JDE web site.

If you download that, you'll find that it includes avltree.

Alternatively, if you had searched the archive 
        (http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html)

for "avltree", you would have found a message from me, posted exactly one week
ago, answering exactly the same question.
