How does projects work ?

Projects is a nice feature in JDE but I have a strange behavior when
using it:
    - I have a project file in the root of my sources
    - I have some sub-project files under this root.

The problem occured when I'am visiting java files outside of my root
directory hierarchie: in this case when I'm coming back on one of my
source file all JDE settings are lost.

Why this happen , and how can I correct it ?
