This is a really cool idea. Will you be able to make your resources available to us? I could see giving a Food For Thought here at work. ...I'll teach those VI weenies one of these days... ;-) > What would you show to emacs-beginners ? Depends on their exposure to UNIX. If they don't have any, you can easily blow them away with features we all take for granted. Show off some of the extra-cool features not available in, say, Notepad: rectangular editing, query-replace-regexp, complete, etc. Show them that Emacs is a one-stop-shop: fire up customize and show all the customization groups. > What are your favorites jde's features ? There is a long, long list. However, "Free" is probably my favourite. My second favourite is "[EMAIL PROTECTED]". Where does one go for VAJ or JB questions? Where does one get authoritative answers for other IDEs? Where does one get 1-hour-turn-around bug fixes for other IDEs? Where does one get Paul? Javier? etc...? :-) > What may I show to give them the feeling that jde is more suitable > for java coding than jd3, vaj, etc. "More suitable" is a very subjective thing. You mightn't be able to do this. People who are comfortable with something find it really hard to move over to something else...and Emacs has a steep learning curve (Yes it does...Yes it does...Yes! It does!) However, there are ways to diminish the learning curve...(something that has not yet been done reasonably from my searches on the Web.) When I eventually pull together a "learners guide" or a "getting started manual", it will contain: - a very rich, well documented, ready-to-use .emacs - a single ZIP or TAR/GZ file containing a complete Emacs and site-lisp distribution (supports above .emacs). This will also include gnuserv/gnuclient. - a very comprehensive HTML(?) page containing commonly used keystrokes. The official GNU Emacs Reference Card is too generic. Hope this helps, greg_fenton. ===== Greg Fenton [EMAIL PROTECTED] __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo!
