I find the the bulk of the load time is spent initializing bsh,
and that is probably because my machine is already running way too
many processes. It still loads inside of 10 seconds.
When you load (x)emacs, you might want to monitor the process table
(top or whatever) just to see if perhaps you aren't causing a lot of
swapping or taxing some other resource.
NFS-mounted elisp files will do it too. Also check that your elisp
files have been byte-compiled.
