Thanks for your answer. I was also using the standard compile command to 
trigger ant. I had another trick than placing a cd in the command line: I 
opened a dired buffer on the directory where is the build.xml, and before 
building I was just switching to this buffer (this ensured the current 
directory in which compile command is executed was that of project build.xml).

The reason why I installed jdee was notably to make all this simpler. I think 
that the correction would be pretty simple to make, just replacing simple quote 
by double quotes...
