In terms of speed, yeah xdb_file pretty much sucks. However, it's a
reasonable answer for most people since it's simple to setup and use
for a small server. What probably needs to be done is to have multiple
"distributions" of the server that come with varying xdb backends for scalability
and an appropriate db all setup so people can just untar and go.

I, for one, hate setting up databases. :)
