Hi Julian, PASS is a streaming connection. While streaming in and of itself is fine, the proxy must be able to cache the transfer if it is going to act as I suggested. In other words you would have to layer a file transfer protocol and caching protocol on top of PASS.
The other difference is that a second client must then be able to request the same data from the proxy assuming it has obtained a key that identifies the data that was cached. In the second case the proxy is now acting as the source; another proxy intermediates and caches for the new recipient. The poster was asking about downloading being the same as mirroring, and I was trying to answer what would be needed to implement that. PASS at present doesn't, although you probably could do an end-point to end-point mirror through PASS (instead of end-point to proxy) if you didn't mind the wasted bandwidth.
