Nice work! I also have a working LDAP authenticator, which I've been
waiting to commit for the same issues in Debian that you found.

I'm not going to commit either yet, because it would break my build
system, and we can't have that ;) I have heard that Debian will
be including OpenLDAP 2.1 (compiled against libsasl2) soon, which will
solve this. Once thats in place, I'll commit either your version or mine
(or the best bits from both).

Rest assured though, 2.0.0 will be released with LDAP auth support.
