Just chatted with some of the Exodus developers about it, and what might be best is to have a server directory (servers.jabber.org?) and be able to query that, perhaps using disco. Then we'd also have a .xml file available via HTTP in the same format, so you could get the same data even if you're not connected to the Jabber network.
