[JDEV] client or server?

Hello everyone,   I am writing a Jabber client that will have the ability to share documents and pass messages telling other clients what files are available. Can anyone tell me whether it is necessary to write a server, or will a suitably written client be able to handle the messages i want to pass?   The idea is that each user can choose to share a number of files and other users can see what is available. If this is relevant to them, then they can access it. Has this been implemented already?   thanks, Jon
