Hey, I tried ljud and had similar problems. I did not pursue a solution to those problems and switched to fljud[1].
I do not know anything about the ljud project, so I can not answer the support question, but fljud works well. It is in perl and can get alittle slow, but our[2] ldap has about 10,000 users in it and it seems to be doing ok. Just thought you might like to know.
