Is that not then a bug in the client, for failing to validate that the string
which was entered is valid according to the JEP? Hardly a good reason for
adding a redundant element to the vCard. (Who stops someone entering
anything they want in this new age field, anyway?)
Failing that, Perl (and probably others) has a library for parsing
human-entered dates.
