It looks like text chat is completely optional, depending on whether or not you've set up an account with the big 4. This leads me to believe that the text chatting is always based on one of these services and therefore not p2p, and that the other features (like video conferencing) are not based on existing IM protocols like AIM or MSN. With this in mind, there's no reason they couldn't have supported Jabber. For some reason they have ICQ.
