I think it would be interesting to just have a best practices JEP that would explain how a Jabber /client/ could implement Zeroconf IM or server discovery. We're not talking about changing the XMPP protocol at all.
That's exactly right. The RFC specifically states that the client-server TCP architecture is merely the history to date. We now have an HTTP binding as well, so there are already two ways to talk XMPP. Why not have a third?
I wonder if our friends over at Apple would like to take some time out of their
schedule to write up the JEP to describe what _they_ did. ;-)
