Perhaps they are using JEP-0048, which enables you to bookmark
conference rooms and URLs:

http://www.jabber.org/jeps/jep-0048.html

This appears to be different. This is purely a roster entry:

       <item category="conference"
             subscription="none"
             jid="[EMAIL PROTECTED]" >
         <group>Conferences</group>
       </item>

Ah well in that case it looks like it is some kind of non standard hack that if you think about it could cause problems with MUC implementations, as it would make you appear to be in the room to the MUC server as soon as you log in to your jabber account when infact you arnt, you would be far better implementing the above mentioned standard.
