I basically agree with everything you have said, although the sourceforge part isn't as important to me as the freshmeat part. I think js.o does a decent job at the former but a bad job at the latter. Also all projects are different. You might want to use some of js.o's services but not others, making you a half-breed between the two needs. My own example is that Psi is self-hosted, but we certainly do have a Sourceforge listing, and we use them to mirror all of our official releases. Incidentally we have js.o and fm.net listings too.
