Thanks buddy but if I use the server name as gmail.com it doesn't seem to solve the problem; the client doesn't connect.

Thanks for your suggestion too Fabio but using SSL with port number set
as 5223 also fails. I have not tested it with the code that I wrote
that I wrote but I did check it with Psi Client. The error I get is that
"gmail.com certificate failed the authenticity test. Reason: Hostname does not match the one the certificate was issued to"
When I saw the certificate it was issued to talk.google.com but the certificate expected was for gmail.com

Is everybody developing their own jabber client facing problems
connecting to googletalk server??? I am able to connect to ALL other
jabber servers perfectly well......
