Personally, i wouldn't implement JEP-8. Having to upload your
avatar to every one of your contacts doesn't really scale well with
bigger contact lists, and is a high burden on a client. The plus of
153 is that clients without an avatar protocol (but with good vcard
support) can still make use of the avatars published by JEP-153.
JEP-8 is a good fallback. Some server-side vcard stores don't deal
with storing big fields like the ones required by the binval of
photo, so 153 will fail silently. Besides, jep-8 would be great if
you switch one word of the jep: it allows server side storage, but
the recomended way is to fetch from the client.
