one more (caution, advertisement follows):
- psyced: requires irc client, lets local ircers join local* rooms,
and talk to remote xmpp people (using xmpp:[EMAIL PROTECTED] syntax**)
and behaves like a more-or-less-compliant xmpp and muc server
          for remote jabberites.

Similar approach as ejabberd-ircd, but much more mature.

(*) reason for this restriction are conceptual differences between irc
and jabber - room nicknames, join recognition, join procedure,
    spanning tree vs 'broadcast', ...
(**) rewriting those to short nicknames is possible, but requires manual
    configuration by the user.
