I think the end user would never type the JID. The end user would be

If you use jabber:iq:gateway, you really don't care what % or \40 is going to be used. Just use the JID in the reply. One thing that bothers me though, is that there is no reverse jabber:iq:gateway: going from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
