No, I didn't send a </stream:stream> to the server... I tried it on jabber.de and amessage.info.
Are you sure your connection didn't time out, or you sent something else over the wire? I have copy pasted exactly what you entered above (in a telnet session to amessage.info, substituting example.com with amessage.info), and got no </stream> cheers, Remko
