The current buddycloud client (buddycloud.googlecode.com) does
threaded chats. For ease of use, we restrict to two levels: topics and
replies which makes more sense on the mobile. That said, it's a feature
we plan on phasing out for chats: it's very confusing for users.
Confusing because in realtime chat, we chat linearly rather than in threads.
On buddycloud channels (less realtime, less "chat") threads make a lot
of sense and let users reply to posts like "here is a video of my cat"
with a comment. But that is all pub-sub and not chat although this may
help your thinking in the area.
