Openfire is still actively maintained - the last release was only a few months 
ago. I know it's not really very 'cool' these days, but it still remains one of 
the easiest xmpp servers to install and configure (thanks to a decent web admin 
panel), and I would guess still very popular if the 5 million downloads they 
quote on their homepage is correct!
