Apparently, several people tried to unsubscribe and
couldn't figure out how to do it despite the fact that
the URL is at the end of each email message. So they
sent emails to the list saying remove me from this list.
That prompted a discussion about people who
can't read and understand something as simple
as unsubscribing to the list. It got pretty hot and
heated and in my opinion there were a lot of
uncalled for rude statements made back and forth
about various people on the list. And, it escalated from there.
It got pretty ugly, if you ask me.

This discussion went on endlessly for a good part of
the day on Friday with not much else being discussed
which was enough to cause other people to want to
unsubscribe because there was no Java being discussed,
just how stupid people are that can't figure out how
to unsubscribe. There were quite a few people who
sent messages after all this took place telling the list
that they were unsubscribing because they were
sick and tired of all this endless talk about stuff
other than Java. From reading some of the replies,
it appears that something similar has occurred on
the previous or a previous Friday. I don't recall
reading any of these previous discussions.

I subscribe to several lists similar to this and I was
surprised how nasty it got. On occasion I have
seen a few people go at each other on another list.
Usually someone steps in and tries to calm everyone
down and put the person who started it in their
place. But this was the worse case I had ever
witnessed. And I guess that's why some people
are just totally disgusted with this list.

It's a shame because these lists are great resources
for everyone and the more people that participate
the better.

How's that for a long winded answer. It's this
very reason that some people want off the list.
So now that I've explained the reason to you,
let's all just agree to drop this topic now, forget
about it and move on to real Java issues.

Sorry for such a long post. I promise I will
never do it again unless it's a Java question.

Hope everyone can move on from Friday's discussion
and continue to benefit from all the great people on
this list that try to respond to everyone's Java questions.
