[jdjlist] java on linux newbie

This is my first msg to this list. I'm a developer from a bank in istanbul. I've joined a Java course of Sun before; but didn't develop anything since then, really. Now i decided to improve my skills. I need some advices for best choices. I've some set of little questions :

- I use Suse linux 8.1. Which development ide shall i prefer? Borland JBuilder, Eclipse, Sun one, or any other?
- If I develop stand-alone java programs on linux, will they be available to work on win32?
- I don't know what is beneath the new style skinnable programs. I even don't know the name for it. But let me try to explain : Every skin seems to lay on a non-rectangle form. And layouts of these forms differ in each skin. How can you develop such an interface? What's the name for it? I think it may be done in java; and which other languages give support for this?
- Any reference & starting points will be appreciated : web links, tutorials, white papers, books, other mailing lists, forums, etc..
