Hi Rick ! I have this little bell ringning in my head when I look at your lazy initialization of your base class (Store). I don't think there will be any problems since you do this inside a static context, but I must check this further...
You mentioned that you have some design pattern books...Do you have "Concurrent Programming in Java(TM): Design Principles and Pattern (2nd Edition)" by Doug Lea ? If so look after lazy initialization (don't now if this is any issue here, but I'll check it out...) "I'll be back"...
