Here are some admittedly random thoughts.

They spent a lot of time talking about the changes in 1.5 which may or may not be released before the next JavaOne. Overkill there maybe. JavaServerFaces looks very interesting since it seems to approach web page development in the more tradition GUI sense. I think this will more uniformly appeal to developers. I also liked the incremental/auto update feature that is coming out for the J2SE on Windows. The downside here is that it is targeted at the home user rather than the enterprise because they don't provide a method of caching the changes locally behind a firewall and I didn't see any support for running the updates as a batch job. The other problem was that it isn't going to make it into 1.4.2 but rather in a 1.4.2_xx release this fall most likely. When things like this happen I wonder how many people are actually working on that function.

As far as the announcements, I thought the HP & Dell deals were great, along with the branding campaign. Every time Sun does something like this I can't help but think how much more effective it would have been a few years ago. Still, better late than never.

McNealy's report card thing was pretty stupid, though I did like to see that it pointed out that their marketing of Java has been horrible.

As far as how the show was run:
- I was happy that wireless net access was available in a few places.
- Some sessions filled early. Seems like they use the space better.
- I was really pissed when they ran out of fajitas on Wednesday.
- I still don't get the whole "line" thing before keynotes.
- Apple might as well have not come since they wouldn't say a thing because the WWDC was in two weeks.

I'd really like to see the numbers on attendance from year to year.

Was anyone from this list at the JavaOne show last week?

If you were, what were your thoughts?

I was at the show all week and blogged most of the time:
