Hi there,

My name is Sam Reid, I am a software engineer with PhET Interactive Simulations at the University of Colorado Boulder. Our educational simulations (mainly Java) are launched around 40 million times per year and we are worried about the bug 8017174 that was introduced in Java 7u25, which causes our simulations to crash when launched with Java Web Start. We have already heard from numerous users having this problem. The fix from JDK8 has already been backported in this commit: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7u/jdk7u-dev/jdk/rev/7064285022a0

We are hoping that a new Java 7 update version with this fix will be released in time for the new school season to start, mid-August in the United States and many other countries. What is the expected timeline for the next Java 7 update release? Anything we can do to expedite it? I was also concerned since the backport was made on July 2 and not listed in jdk7u40 build 33 release notes:

Thanks again, looking forward to hearing from you,
Sam
