This is a copy of a message sent to the DB PMC regarding the health of
the JDO community.
Hi Kristian,
The JDO project is alive and has a core group of active participants.
The community is not growing, and has not added new committers in a
long time. Some of this is due to misperceptions among the database
community that JDO was deprecated in favor of JPA. While not accurate,
there is certainly more activity on JPA than on JDO.
That said, there are projects outside Apache that continue to support
JDO and JDO has a place in the database ecosystem. The JDO project is
continuing to add features and is continuing to operate under the
auspices of the Java Community Process.
The project does have weekly telephone conferences, and all project
discussions are documented and published to the jdo-dev mailing lists.
The project maintains an active JIRA where issues are discussed and
resolved.
I don't believe that the way the JDO project is being run scares
anyone away. But it's not obvious how to attract new members to the
team.
Regards,
Craig
