Simon - I still don't understand why the patch to QueryIter1 is different in
style to QueryIter2.
QueryIter1 propagates requestCancel() down the chain.
QueryIter2 turns requestCancel() into calls of cancel() down the tree. Why not
requestCancel?
Currently, in implementation terms, the only difference between close() and
abort() is that abort suppresses exceptions.
The implementation of abort() current calls closeIterator() so we have the
opportunity to change the contract and make it threadsafe, extending its
contract. There is overlap between abort(), cancel() and close(). While we're
in the area, it seems better to make a consistent set of operations.
