Hi,
I'm writing this on behalf of the Jenkins project, as we received some
feedbacks to the donation process, and I got an action from the project
to pass them on to SPI. I hope this is the right alias.
I don't think we are expecting any immediate action on these. We are
just hoping that these are useful input when SPI revisits the donation
system in the future.
Mainly, there are three common feedbacks I heard from donors.
One is that Click&Pledge, the payment server you use, doesn't feel
trustworthy, making people feel nervous. Many factors appear to be
contributing to this. It's a site that not many people have heard of.
Some felt that look&feel are dated [1], and the page doesn't contain
enough contextual text to make donors feel like they are donating to
SPI. On some occasions, the system isn't very reliable and becomes
unresponsive. Because there's money involved, this makes people nervous.
(I'm sure this has been discussed before, but my +1 for PayPal ---
Apache, Wikipedia, and Ubuntu all accept PayPal, which is well-known.)
Another is that people wanted to be able to donate in Euro. I could be
misunderstanding this feedback, but I believe the heart of the issue is
that they want the charge to be "domestic" (within EU), so that it
doesn't incur any foreign transaction fee and they know exactly how much
they get charged upfront. Click&pledge website claims that it "can
accept donations from over 39 countries around the world", so perhaps
this is easy to fix.
The last feedback is more of a request for enhancement and not a
complaint from donors, but multiple people told us that it'd be nice to
be able to set up a subscription --- a recurring payment. This option
does seem to be available on the main SPI donation page [1], but it is
missing from the project specific donation page [3]. Perhaps this is
also something that can be easily fixed?
Thanks for listening!
