Would it be possible to add the git commit-ish to snapshot versions of plugins?

Today you get a timestamp plus the username of the one who built it. Sometimes
we have some kind of emergency upgrade or, shamed to tell you, a temporary fork
of a plugin running in our production system and it's a bit of a detective work
to find out what we actually are running in it and if we could upgrade a plugin
or if we'd lose the feature currently running. A commit-ish in the version
would help a lot, but username and timestamp should probably still be there
since you can build uncommitted code.
I know Gerrit has this configured for snapshot versions in maven somehow.

Would this be possible to add to the plugin parent pom or would that mess up
too many of peoples infra scripts?
