I found a discussion <https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-13637>which says we need to do this<https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Plugin+tutorial#Plugintutorial-SettingUpEnvironment>. I'm going to try it now, is it the right way or just a workaround till a fix gets ready ?
